“Hello, my name is Aida. I was born in San Sebastian, Puerto Rico and I have lived in the area for the past 30 years. I am fluent in both English and Spanish. It has been my privilege to work with children for the past 25 years. I provided day care in my own home for 12 years until both of my children had entered school, and then I was afforded the opportunity to become the Spanish teacher at the school my children attended for 12 years. In that time, I was privileged to teach hundreds of children in grades kindergarten through 8th grade in my native language. I consider every one of these children to be my personal legacy, and cherish the memories I have of them. Many of them are college graduates and parents of the next generation, and these relationships are rekindled every time I see one of them in public settings. I currently teach ages five thru 7 in the children’s ministry at my church and thoroughly enjoy working with them. I consider the years I have spent nurturing children as an investment, giving a part of myself to each child as well as their families. Having worked with young children so many years, it is my personal belief that the best environment for growing children is their own home with the individual attention of a committed adult. Large day care centers may look wonderful with nice toys and beautiful facilities, but it is not home, and children can become lost in the crowd. This is why I would like to work as your Kitsap County Mother’s Helper, so that I may continue to have a positive influence on the next generation.”
