She has taken her to the playground, to the movies, to the pool in the summer, and I am always confident that my child is 100% safe and in good hands! Mary Beth is more patient than anyone I know and is completely and entirely trustworthy!”

“Mary Beth was a wonderful volunteer in our church Nursery and Pre-Kindergarten Sunday School class, fulfilling and exceeding the job requirements of a volunteer! She was fun and engaging with the children, was very creative in storytelling, songs, and craft activities. Mary Beth also was well organized in coordinating the other Sunday school teachers. Mary Beth was a great caregiver to all the children! She always had a positive attitude and shared her enthusiasm for the activities with the children and adults in the class. Mary Beth was a pleasure to have as a Sunday school leader and is a responsible caregiver! She will do very well as one of the Lake Ridge Nannies”

“Mary Beth worked for our family for two years as one of the Lake Ridge Nannies, taking care of our son Jonathan, who was in grade school. Mary Beth’s responsibilities included getting Jonathan to school in the mornings and back home in the afternoon; ensuring he did his homework; driving to extramural activities; providing dinner when we were home late; and doing his laundry. Mary Beth is kind, affectionate, and caring! She never missed a day or was tardy to work. She has a very pleasant demeanor, never raises her voice, and always had our son’s best interest at heart. She was very dependable and tried to find creative “boy” activities to do with our son. Mary Beth and Jonathan developed a close relationship, and to this day he still remembers the wonderful times they shared!”

“I was Mary's employer when she worked as a part-time Nanny for our family. When I hired Mary she was a teacher at a local private school, which my children attended. She was their favorite teacher because she was passionate about each one of her students. During her employment with us, she acted as surrogate parent, tutor, and used her teaching background to apply her sophisticated knowledge of child development. She worked equally well with all three girls and showed exceptional finesse in discerning appropriate interactions with each of my children. Mary Beth followed our protocol for behavior management, diet, recreation, and the daily regime for the children. I can assure you that Mary is a very responsive Nanny, one who cares a great deal about the children in her care. She has a wonderful natural ability to relate to young people. I was always impressed by her good sense of humor, her patience, common sense and fairness. My three girls were twelve, eight, and six when Mary Beth worked for us. She looked upon each one of my children as individuals and found caring and appropriate ways to meet the needs of each one of them. For instance, she was discerning, knowing just when to step in if my oldest was having a bad day. She listened and worked with her to problem-solve, and helped her to stay on top of her school assignments. She provided nutritious meals, prepared lunches and read-aloud to and played with the two younger siblings. Her training and background in art was an invaluable asset. She had the children writing and performing skits, provided hands-on art activities, and supervised their play¬ dates and with other children. Mary Beth is a broadly experienced person. Not only has she had her own very successful classroom, but she also has been employed as a caregiver in a hospital setting, assisted elders in their homes, and managed a small retail business. Her extensive experience with people in so many different settings has given Mary Beth a very special understanding about what can be the most positive things in people's lives. She was skillful in giving excellent, honest feedback to me about my children's daily life and used a compassionate and humorous approach to getting the girls to cooperate around schoolwork, bedtime and household routines. Mary Beth is a good planner and can manage the children's busy schedules, household chores and meal preparation efficiently. She is highly motivated and enriched our family life in many ways. I am happy, therefore, to give my strongest recommendation on her behalf as one of the Lake Ridge Nannies.”

“Mary came to our school as a substitute for a science teacher who needed to take a leave of absence. Mary's insightful observations of children and her willingness to creatively adapt curriculum resulted in an almost seamless transition. The children responded to her warmth and obvious commitment to them with a strong desire to meet her expectations, both behaviorally and academically. Not every teacher is able to manage boys with a wide variety of learning styles, but Mary's sensitivity, clarity and organizational structure made them feel psychologically safe and therefore able to focus on the task at hand. Mary Beth worked nights and weekends without reserve in order to master her curriculum and meet the needs of students in kindergarten through second grade. At the end of a three month period she wrote reports that reflected a rare level of understanding of the individuals in her care. When our science teacher returned, Mary Beth willingly stepped into the position of pre-first assistant. Met with a very challenging group of boys, she was quick to identify the special qualities of each one. Building on their strengths she worked with the lead teacher to create a very caring and respectful community. At the same time she designed activities that provided a creative outlet for some needy boys, for example, through painting and drama. Mary Beth also worked hard with individual boys with significant learning needs, providing soothing and stimulating activities around a theme of vital interest to them. Inclusive and reassuring, Mary Beth helped to diffuse tension in the room, at the same time as she developed skills and confidence in her students. In parent conferences, Mary Beth proved herself to be a supportive and at times courageous colleague, willing to state her view with clear, unswerving focus on the needs of a particular child. She listened well and communicated her observations in a very descriptive non-judgmental fashion. Her poise, empathetic stance and knowledge of how children learn, quickly won the trust of parents. As a community member, Mary Beth established herself as a team player with honesty, integrity and discretion. She has made close friends and taken a vital interest in our elementary program. Her suggestions have been important and helpful. It is our wish to keep Mary Beth if it proves possible, but any institution that truly values children will benefit from the gifts that she brings. We know that being one of the Lake Ridge Nannies is incredibly important to Mary Beth and we truly wish her all the best!”

“Mary Beth has been a lead teacher at Friends School for the past ten years, teaching in second and third grades. After thoughtful consideration, Mary Beth seeks an opportunity to teach in a different setting and hopes to experience a larger school environment. Although we will miss her at Friends School Haverford next year, I admire her desire for professional and personal growth. Mary Beth was an experienced teacher when she arrived at FSH and she has both enhanced and contributed her considerable talents to our community. Mary's students are well-prepared for academic success in third grade. As a life long learner, she continues to identify and incorporate best pedagogic practices to maximize learning for each student. Mary Beth is a compassionate and sensitive teacher who develops a warm rapport with her students and their families. She is a valued colleague and friend. Mary cares about her students. She is a thoughtful observer of children and has broad teaching background and knowledge of child development to create a meaningful context for her observations. She recognizes the inner qualities of each child and helps each one recognize those qualities in themselves. She has a light touch with her students and can connect with them through playfulness, imagination, humor, and empathy as well as intellect. While believing philosophically in approaches such as the responsive classroom model, Mary Beth brings her Quaker background to acknowledge and support the individual worth of each student. She creates a classroom environment that incorporates the five Quaker testimonies: Simplicity, Peace, Integrity, Community, Equality, and Stewardship. She is a creative teacher and brings her love of art, music, movement, and meditation into the classroom to the benefit of her students. She is able to differentiate her approach to address the specific needs of each child. Mary Beth established warm relationships with parents. Invariably, some students each year require a tremendous amount of communication between home and school to support the student in his/her learning, behaviors, and social interactions with peers. Mary Beth goes above and beyond with parents to help them understand what outside resources are needed to help children thrive and move forward. This is challenging work and Mary Beth does it very well. In a small school, every teacher contributes to the community in many ways beyond the classroom. Mary has served a faculty representative to School Committee, on the Curriculum Advisory Committee, the Environmental Education Committee, and many other groups. Mary consistently takes advantage of professional development opportunities and is a strong voice for creating a vibrant professional learning community with her colleagues. Mary is a remarkable teacher and person. She will do wonderfully as one of the Lake Ridge Nannies”
